In the saga
of Social service, voluntary effort, civil society movement, Sahara
traversed 15 years of its cherished innings beaming into its bright
futuristic events.
The humble and
service minded founders of Sahara started its activities way back
in the year 1986. The joyous event occurred when Sahara was registered
on the 29th Dec'1988 under the Public Societies Registration Act
at Hyderabad to get the official stamp of a Non Governmental Organisation
(NGO). Thus, Sahara celebrates its anniversary on 29th December
every year in the service of the poor and needy.
Sahara, inter
alia, is working for seven concern areas - child care, women development,
youth services, aged care, environment protection, agriculture &
rural development and prevention of HIV/AIDS pandemic:
Activities/Achievements to date:
- Supported
more than 1200 children, especially girl child to continue school
education.
- Identified
and supported orphan and poor handicapped children in Medak District
and helped in establishing an Orphanage.
- 6 Child labour
special schools for specialized groups like Beedi Workers and
quarry workers are being run in Nizamabad and Karimnagar Districts.
Apart from these schools support was extended to number of girl
child labour and street children to better their future. More
than 500 child labour were covered under these activities.
- Summer Coaching
classes for competitive exams for poor students were conducted
in Asifabad of Adilabad District.
- Organised
Bio-diversity exhibition and prepared Bio-diversity registers
in Nizamabad district to focus sustainable agriculture.
- School Sanitation
Awareness Program is being organized in 17 villages of Tadwai,
Machareddy and Biknoor mandals of Nizamabad district.
- Under village
greenery programme, 3000 saplings planted and maintained in Varadavelli
village, Karimnagar District and another 30,000 trees were in
different areas.
- Working in
reduction of girl child labour in beedi industry in 10 villages
of Karimnagar District.
- Working for
capacity building of beedi rolling women in 10 villages of Tadwai
Mandal , Nizamabad.
- Conducted
counseling for youth on self development, career building, employment
in gulf countries, etc. Organised Youth Trainings, Organisation
of Beneficiaries, Youth Festivals, Sports, Cultural and Social
Development Programmes.
- Formed Women
Self Help Groups (SHGs) in 20 villages covering 2500 women in
Karimnagar District and 2000 women beedi workers in 20 villages
of Tadwai Mandal of Nizamabad District.
- Organised
Health Camps, Eye Camps, Family Planning Camps, AIDS Awareness
Camps, Seminars etc. benefiting more than 100000 people.
- Provided
41 Drinking Water hand pumps in remote and problematic villages
of Karimngar District.
- Organized
Environment Awareness camps on different subjects from last one
decade in different villages of Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad
Districts of Telangana Region.
- Organised
State Level Project Management Workshop for grass root level NGOs.
- Constructed
90 Sanitary Latrines in the villages of Kodurpak and Varadavally
of Karimnagar District.
- Awareness
Generation Programmes for women belong to SC, ST & BCs were
organized in districts of Adilabad and Karimangar.
- Vocational
training in Tailoring, Embroidery, Handicrafts, etc. were organized
to benefit youth and women in the Districts of Karimnagar, Adilabad
and in the slums of Hyderabad.
- Agriculture
Extension and Training was provided to more than 1000 small and
marginal farmers belonging to weaker sections at different intervals.
Emphasized for the usage of natural manure and pesticides. Agricultural
loans and linkage programmes with local banks through SHGs were
provided.
- Organized
Awareness campaign on care of the aged in more than 120 schools
in A.P
- Collected
used clothes, household articles, medicines, food materials etc,
and utilized to benefit thousands of poor and needy.
